Question Just Curious

Hi All!
I'm very new in this hobby and not knowing much about reef make me even harder to understand it even though having reading a lot but it seem doesn't come to stuck in my brain. I do have reef which is about 5 month now
and through the 5 month period, I been doing dosing Iodine, Strontium, Trace Elements, Phytoplankton, Calcium, Vitamin and Magnesium by schedule and that what lfs recommands me. Right now I'm just curious, does it necessary, should i or shouln't i dosing in my reef tank, if it does need dosing, what the possible thing to dose? If it does not need dosing should i leave it to nature take it cause and i did water change with RO/DI water twice in a month and when it come to do the tested everything is in good hand.

Nash,

You will get some different opinions on this based on people doing what works for them. Iodine, Strontium and others can be harmful if too much gets into the water; anything more than Natural Sea Water levels. The problem here isn't so much dosing, it is more of accurately measuring them in your water.

I am of the opinion that the only thing needed is food (of course) and something to maintain proper calcium and alkalinity levels. This can be accomplished with a Calcium Reactor or with a good 2-part additive like B-Ionic or Ocean Blend (I'm not sure what you have available in Singapore). Anything other than those is un-necessary and maybe even risky.

if you are adding all those suppliments, then you should be testing the water alot, to verify the water parameters.

Hi Nash!

Welcome to REEFLAND!

The only supplement I use is "kalkwasser". And food of course. Except I buy my kalk at the grocery store, under the name Mrs. Wages. It is food grade Calcium Hydroxide you may be able to find something similar there. Good luck!
