Question Damsel

I have a yellowhead damsel in my tank, she was the first fish in the tank. I added two black oscelaris clowns two weeks later and all was well. Yesterday I added a sailfin tang and the damsel seems to be extremely po'ed at the tang. The damsel chases the tang around and bites at him. Any suggestions on how to get the damsel to accept the tang before she kills him? Should I remove the damsel from the tank into a jar for a while or just get rid of her? It doesn't matter where the tang is in the tank, the damsel keeps bothering it. The tank is 75g with about 90lb LR so there seems to be plenty of room in the tank for both to be happy but the damsel wants to rule every gallon of water!

Damsel's are aquarium nazi's dude. They are vicious. I had the same problem with a Domino Damsel but my clowns killed him. I would suggest to get rid of it. Look the damsel was about what? $4. Not worth loosing that Sailfin tang man. It's cruel but just flush em.

im going to give mine up as soon as i can find a place or someone to give him to. then i can get a nice calm peaceful fish to take his place.

Glad to get rid of the rat bastard but i dont have the heart to flush him.

On the other hand, i could try a mini tank with just the damsel and a bit of LR.

Yeah good idea, try a mini tank for him. Or take him to an lfs and just give him back. I doubt you will get much store credit for it but hey atleast you aren't just killing it.

Damsel

Thanks for the advice. The damsel has served it's purpose of cycling the tank. The Tang will survive with my help. Now I have the task of capturing the little SOB, I spent an hour and a half trying last night, little sucker is quick!

Just so you know it's highly recommended not to cycle the tank with a fish. It's very stressful on the fish to do it this way. The best way is throw a dead shrimp from the supermarket in there and let it rot away to a powder. Gives you a good excuse to have a shrimp boil also.

Damsel

The damsel was added 3-4 weeks after the LR. It performed tremendously in the final stages of cycle without any stress noticed to the fish. Now I have one mean attack damsel that thinks he owns every inch of the tank to get rid of. Any ideas on an easy way to catch this rat bastad would be appreciated.

Catching fish with LR in the system is never an easy task. I'd try feeding with a turkey baster for a while til he gets used to it. Then you can lure him up and try to net him.

first off damsels are always agressive and territorial.

never get a damsel if you wish for your fish to get along. the damsel will pick on most fish with long fins. why i dont know but thats how it goes. Question-ever wondered why they sell damsels for so cheap? looks nice but they always beat up other fish so dont get damsels!!!!!!!
