anemone

hey somone help me here,

I just got my first anemone. It looks so cool. Dont know the name of it because my retailer did not know ither!? What an ass... Anyway my question is about feeding my anemone. How do i feed it. I tryed to stick a piece of raw shrimp about 1/3 the size of it on its tentcles from the grocery strore. but it just swept away in the current. it stayed attached to the tentecles for a couple of seconds and then was swept away in the current. the anemone is about the size of a clenched fist.

do i just stick a piece in its mouth untill it eats it?
my tanks lights are 2 40 watt florecent uri. 1 03 actinic and 1 50 white/actinic

any suggestions? thanx

Yikes... that probably isn't good enough lighting for an anemone, at least not long term. What does it look like? That would help with ID'ing it. As for feeding.. Firstly, is the shrimp you tried to feed it actually raw *sometimes it's cooked and looks raw.. should say on the pkg.*? They don't tend to like cooked too well. Secondly, You need to make the food very small, bits that are about 1/2 the size of its mouth opening (in the very center) .. and Thirdly., if it is a healthy anemone, the food should stick to its tentacles, which should also feel sticky to your touch. If the tentacles ARE sticky, then there is too much flow for it if it swept the food away.

Fourth... I'm not trying to preach, but ... Really, you need to do your research before you buy the animal, not after, because if you now have a sickly or dying anemone, you can only blame it on yourself for not knowing what a healthy one should look like, act like, eat, etc... ... ok, so maybe I am preaching a little.. but it's for the animals' sakes, not yours.
