55w pc's? How many? And how much money do you think you'll be able to save? Your pumps probably use more power than these lights... I just don't see it making an appreciable difference to cut down the lighting time... Unless a couple dollars a month makes a big difference for you ...Originally Posted by knutcracker

I have 2 bulbs of actinic, 2 bulbs of full range. I have no idea how much i'll save. Does anyone? I figure whatever helps and since i'm not home all that much to enjoy, don't really need 12 hrs of lighting. And importantly, water temp is at 86 degrees even at night, cutting down time might help.
lighting time for corals of all kinds i think would be 10 minumum. we want to represent natural situations. our lighting is not even 1/3 the intensity of the sun. even our "best" lighting does not compare. so minum full intesity of light i would say is 10 hours. ideally 16 hours of standard bulbs florecent 40 watt. 14 of ho and 12 vho. halides are another story.
