Tan furry growth on my LR
Sorry for this question with out a pic to show but maybe it is a common thing.
Its very short maybe a 1/8" tall, tan in color and resembles teddy bear fur. Right now is maybe the size of a quarter. I dont have the best lighting yet so it may not be growing as fast as it could be but it is definetly growing. Is this an algea or some sort of plant? I have a few things growing on my live rock and since its my first growing thing im pretty happy that at least something is growing. If I have to lift it out and take a pic I will but I really dont like to disturb things that much. Any ideas? |

Sounds like algae, but a pic would be helpful. Can't you take a pic through the glass?

Yes I can take a pic thru the glass but ive tried and with out picking it up and moving it closer to the glass it really doesnt turn out.
It's a really dense mat like growth. it doesnt sway in the current(only an 1/8" tall) Very thick and fluffy is the best way to describe it. Ive not seen pics of all the algea in our tanks. Does a site with nice pics exsist? Id like to see the difference between them all. The good and the bad. My tank just finished cycling and Im really excited. Need to get my light up to par now. Just tried to take another pic thru the glass and it would seem my camera has other ideas. I think it just broke oh well. If I can fix it and take a nice pic ill try and post it. |

It sounds like what your describing is just a bit of turf algae. Is it bad, is it good? Well it can all be bad if it grows in plague proportions obviously. We have a couple of very small patches on our rock and it isn't a problem for us.
