Question Six-line and Yellow Clown Goby in nano reef? good or bad?

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum, hoping i post this in the right area!

I'm wondering if someone can provide input as to whether or not this is a wise choice of tankmates.

The yellow clown goby is currently with an oscellaris clownfish, and the clown is picking on him like crazy. He isn't biting him but he keeps "bumping" him and the goby is clearly intimidated. Our other tank is a 12g nanocube with a six line wrasse and various inverts.

I'm thinking of moving the goby over to the nano, but don't know if this will just make things worse for him. If putting the goby with the wrasse is a bad idea, i may have to find a new home for the clownfish. I like him but, hate to see him harrass the little goby!

Opinions, experience? I would really appreciate any thoughts on this.

    Thanks

    Hi daydreamer, Welcome to Reefland!

How long has the clown and goby been tank mates? I can't see either of them being so aggressive to dictate splitting them up; if the introduction was fairly recent I would give it a bit of time. If they have been mates for several weeks and your still experiencing the problem, then maybe a move is warranted.

    thanks

not sure how long they've been together, i'll estimate about a month.
i was hoping they might work out their issues, but it's been getting worse.
and at feeding time the clown gets really pushy, not just with the goby but the shrimp in the tank as well.

as it turns out, we (mostly my husband *cough cough*) have decided to find a new home for the clownfish. hopefully the LFS we got him from will take him back, he's a healthy and fiesty guy.

however, i'd still love to hear of anyone's experiences with the wrasse/goby mix, because in a few months we will be upgrading to a 55g and they will be housed together then. my plan for that tank is six-line, the goby, a couple anthias and once the tank matures, a scooter blenny.

we had the goby housed with an orchid dottyback for about 10 months with no problems whatsoever, unfortunately we lost him recently. i thought the clownfish would be a peaceful easygoing replacement!

Wrasses are aggressive swimmers and feeders and in only a 12 gallon you could have potential problems. I don't think the wrasse will hurt the little guy but he could get harassed just as bad. On one compatibility chart I found it says that they MAY coexist with members of the wrasse family.

Re: Six-line and Yellow Clown Goby in nano reef? good or bad?

My six line wrasse got very aggressive with my passive fishes. ( firefish, dragonette, sailfin blenny) I eventually had to remove him from the tank and take him back to LFS

I have a sixline wrasse and 2 yellow clown gobys and they get along without any problems but...... I have a 90g,

I think almost any 2 fish would get on each others nerves in a 12g tank. Time to get that 55 gallon going! let's go, chop chop!
