Stunningly beautiful photography! Wow!!!

How long have you had that Queen Angelfish (Holocanthis ciliaris) and is it causing any problems yet?

I'm curious about the 8th pic down. Is that a goniopora sp? I've never seen those colors or heard of anyone with luck keeping them.

The angel is actually a townsend angel, a crossbreed of a blue face and queen. At least that's what the lfs said. We've had him about 3 or 4 months and he does like zoos, brains and my candy cane. Luckily we have multiple tanks to transfer those corals into. In the long run he will probably save me money since I no longer have to try and get every color zoo there is He is a great fish and well worth the zoo sacrifice, very gorgeous!

The goni was actually a baby given to us by a fellow reefer. His mother colony spits them out on a regular basis. We've had this one about 5 or 6 months and it is doing well. Its a very nice lime green color, very cool.

Glad you all have enjoyed the photos
Sheila

Hmm I don't see how a blue-face angel and queen angel can naturally crossbreed as they are found in different parts of the world. One is an Indo-Pacific species and the other an Atlantic species.

That is a nice angel, though. Looks like a Queen Angel to me

Yes, that's a cross between Holocanthus bermudensis and H. ciliaris. They are so common that at one time it was thought to be a separate species and it was given the scientific name H. townsendi.

Besides the few corals that you mentioned, have you had any other problems with it? In particular, has it been aggressive with your other fish?

He is the most aggressive fish in the tank. As of now it just involves a little chasing from time to time with the smaller fish. He seems to have no problems with the naso, but he will chase the coral beauty and the anthias. I try to keep him well feed and that seems to help. It is something I am keeping an eye on though. I would hate to have to get rid of him and hopefully he won't grow too fast. The 300 gal is a year away.

One of the moderators on this board tried a 4" Queen Angelfish in his 180-gal reef tank a few years back. After several weeks, he gave up hope of keeping it and returned it to the store. He thought he could tolerate whatever damage it might do to invertebrates but he was totally unprepared for its aggressive behavior towards his other fish.

P.S. -- Maybe you could swap it for a Regal Angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus)?

so far he is no where near as aggressive as the clarkii (devil) clown we had for 2 years. He came out of the tank a few months ago(finally)!
P.s. I would love to try a Regal

Good stuff Gene! Better watch out though, we just ordered the 20D!!! I booked 2 more weddings and the deposits almost paid the bill.... YAY!!! I still have a rule about photo money being used for the photo business, or else that would have gone into the tank I am sure!

Hi Elmo,

I'm not sure what it is exactly, all I know it is tricolor acro. When it grows up a little maybe then I could possibly identify it.

Mike, congrats on the 20D. Super nice cam for sure. Let me know when you get it and post some pics when you take some. What are going to do with the 10D? Sell it and get some more glass?
I hear you on the spending money for the tank...there is always something that needs upgrading. Never ends...
