Anemone ID please
Hi all,
I dont have a camera so hang in there with my discription. I Just found these 2 anemones and cant find an ID photo anywhere so i thought i would ask. They are basically an opaque / clear with a white ring around the body where the tentacles start. The tentacles are the same opaque /clear and inflated but they have a small hook to the ends that looks like a cats claw. Any ideas and if you know are they good bad or ok? Thanks!

i dont think so. I'll have to borrow the neighbors camera and get a shot for you to see.
I kinda dont even like the anemones so i wouldnt mind ditching the rock but it has some other cool stuff on it.

Are you sure they are anemones then? How big are they? Do they respond to touch and if so how do they react?

ok test results.
they are 1/4 or less tall on the stalk. used a net handle to test the touch reaction. They react to touch by clinging/grabbing on to the handle and retracting like trying to pull it in. then expand back out when not touched. the rock has some plant and sponge growth on it which i would like to keep if it comes to getting rid of the rock. Can that stuff be taken off and placed elsewhere and still survive?

Humm, I thought I would try but that didn't help out a whole lot. A picture is going to be the best way to determine what you have.
As far as removing other desireable from the rock if you need to remove it; macroalgaes could be safely removed and almost certainly will reattach and grow elsewhere in the display. Sponsges however are very, very delicate and best left untouched as they can also be noxious. |
