surface film problems.

I am about at wits end. For the last 2 months (since I added a cpr aquafuge ) I have been having a come and go surface film problem. I will adjust the powerheads and it will go away, but after a few days or so Its baaaack. I am not sure what the cause is for sure. here are a couple possibilities, please anyone give me their honest opinions, and possible solutions. 1. The algae in the refugium, which I believe is cheto, ( my lfs wasnt sure.) and or other refugium causes. 2.I have a large toadstool leather real close to some large hairy mushrooms. (Chemical? ) 3. excess nutrients? Any other possibles??? Would it be ok to remove the macro from the fuge for a few days to see if thats the cause? Im really at a loss here, so any ideas, any at all????
Tank info, 55 gal reef, mostly softys, bak pac skimmer, cpr, aquafuge on reverse lighiting, 4 powerheads for water movement. all params ok except for ph at 7.8. No additives except, kent pro buffer to raise ph. Monthly water changes with I.O. salt.

Hi randymon,

It sounds to me like it is the totally natural film that will occur on any tank that does not incorporate an overflow for surface skimming or enough surface aggitation when surface skimming is not used.

CPR makes a prefilter unit for thier skimmers (http://www.cpraquatic.com/products/bakpak.html) which is something you should consider. This will remove this film from teh surface and make your skimmer a bit more effective by doing so.
