Can there ever be too much light |

I'm new to the reef world and have started a 250g tank. My question would be "Can you have too much light in a reef tank" I'm going with a metal / vho combo and hope that the way to go unless someone knows something new. I have well over 10 watts a gallon and wonder if its toooooo much... can ne one help

Good reading that Gene Posted for you. One other thing I would mention is throw out the Watts Per Gallon thing, it is a useless statistic. Main reason being is that it fails to take the HEIGHT of a tank into consideration.
