Lightbulb ball sponge take over

Just got a healthy "red"(that's what I ordered) ball sponge. It is orange. 9" across. Was wondereng if anyone knows how to divide it more smaller splashes of the color would be better than the one that sits central in my sand.

thanks in advance for the help

Hi nickie, Welcome to Reefland!

Sponges in Nature can reproduce by both sexual and asexual means. This leads me to believe that your sponge could possibly be fragged. However, give this article and follow up article a read over. Perhaps it will help you to make a decision. I never kept a sponge that I bought on purpose so I can't comment with any certainty. I do have lots of sponges growing in my tank but nothing this large or colorful as yours.
At the bottom of each article that I linked to there are more links that you can follow to learn more about sponges.

I found the articals helpful. I also did aditional reading yesterday. my prime concern became that I didn't have a large enough "shady" place for such a large sponge. I am afraid I will get to much algea if I don't do anything. I think I will try to frag a small piece from the bottom and see what happens. I hope to get pics soon don't yet have a camera for that.
