Wondering if my star pissed someone off!

hey guys long time! hope everyone and their tanks are well. i am fighting off the hair algea since the last time i had to move my tank. this time is taking much longer as i have not been doing my pwc as often as i should. anyway just now i was netting out some of the algea during the wc and noticed one of my stars only has 5 stubs! all are about 1 inch long. the only thing i can think of is maybe he stuck his arms in my fire scalops mouth and got them taken away. is this likely? do they lose their legs as they get older just to grow them back? sounds stupid huh. you never know though. what do you think?

Hey SHOG, long time no talk!

I don't know much at all about stars, I have never had one but I seem to recall that they sometimes will lose a leg for varied reasons but as long as it's healthy, it should regenerate a new one.

Hey SHOG!! Great to hear from you again!

I have heard some stars drop legs as a means of reproduction... but that came from a LFS, so it is probably false!

Smile star power

I have a large green brittle that lost a limb due to age a guess. Arm is back and looking good, give it time.

No.

They can lose their legs for a variety of reasons;however, losing all five legs at the same time sounds unusual unless predation is involved. You don't have any harlequin shrimp in your tank, do you?

Nope. All I have is a Blue Damsel, Convict Damsel, Coral Beauty, Perc Clown, Diadema Dotty. I doubt they did it.
