Hello,
Recently i went to the petshop and saw a REALLY nice coral. Although, noone at the petshop seemed to know what it was. It had been sprouting in various tanks all over live rock. I purchased a good sized one on a piece of rock for $20. Maybe someone could help me identify it. It is known as the "mystery coral" at the petshop. Thanks By the way, sorry for the bad picture, took it on my camera phone. |

It could be some sort of toadstool (a leather coral).

Hi Sambo!
From the photo, it looks to be a Xenia sp, and from the looks of it, not the Red Sea pom-pom variety. The coral will pulse (i.e. open and close its polyps in a timely fashion). - Elmo |

I agree with Elmo... Looks like Xenia to me! And if your LFS could not identify that... TIME TO FIND A NEW LFS!
