Talking Proud Papa...

Well the Banggai Cardinalfish eggs finally hatched. The males has released one from his protective mouth. I think it was by accident or maybe it was bigger than the others. I have a attached a picture of the little guy. And I mean little.

Anyway it looks like the male has about 10 - 12 more little babies in his mouth still. Hopefully he will release them all in the next couple of days so I can move them all to the fuge.

Nice! If you catch the male and put him in the fuge he will instantly release the babies. Then you can put him back in the main tank. You don't have to chase down all the babies this way
I fed mine Formula frozen cubes melted in a little tank water until it looked like red dye. Then used a eye dropper to feed the babies. I used a plastic plant for them to hide in. They would all (200 or so) stay inside the plants leaves the first few weeks.

HTH,
Kevin

Forgot to turn off Protein Skimmer

Well I ended up with (3) babies. I think he released them all when I saw the first baby and was snapping pictures of it. I turned off the skimmer after I saw the second baby, but I think it was too late by then.

That's a shame but not to worry he will have another mouth full in 2 weeks or so. Small pieces of raw (uncooked 41-50 count size) shrimp from the store will keep them in top breeding condition. The broods will get larger and larger.

Regards,
Kevin

I believe I lost 6. Good news though I found (2) more alive in the sump. Don't know how they handled over 1400Gph running though the sump, but they are now in a nursery tank. So I now have a total of 5 babies.

good news man!

If they keep that breeding up I might want to get some from you when the 75 gets set up.

Latest Pic

Here is the latest pic of all the babies before I put them in their final nursery. They are so small I am feeding them Baby Brine shrimp and the nursery is too big for that.

SO I will wait about a week before moving them. They are so funny. I have fed them 3 times today so as soon as I look into the tank they all turn and look up at me like in the photo. Kinda like my dog waiting for dinner.

And in sadder off the topic news My Desert Iguana broke her leg today and may have to have it amputated. It sucks. I ws moving her to her brand new state of the art larger cage and after the move I notice she was dragging her front leg. She also refuses to move much from her current spot.

What were the behavior changes in the adults during the whole process?

Sorry to hear about your iquana but atleast he's still alive. My buddy lost his about a year ago and was pretty sad. He had it from palm size to a little over 5 ft long.
