What do you think this is?

I noticed this a few weeks ago hanging on the side of my LR in the more shady side of my tank. Its pure white and fuzzy. Has what looks like a translucent crown shaped group of tenticles? Maybe a featherduster? but Ive never seen a fat white one before and ive never seen them retracted. It is stationary on the rock and growing pretty fast. Last week it was so small I couldnt get a picture. Not that this one is very big by any means but maybe you can tell what it is.

It's a harmless filter feeder and have seen it called a few names but Q tip comes to mind.

I agree, some sort of sponge... I have several in my tank as well, always in the dark side of a rock. I have some Yellow ones too!

It is what I call a pineapple sponge. They seem to go thru cycles as far as population goes. Most times like said above you will find then in dark of low light areas such as overflows or in the sump. They are harmless.

I woke up this morning to find that the little guy in the picture above had disappered. Go figure, Ive been watching him for a month waiting for it to get big enough to snap a picture and the very next day it vanishes. But as I was looking for it, to my suprise I see another one. To far away for that one to have moved that far over night or maybe Im wrong and they can travel but it never moved the entire time since I noticed it so Im sure its another one. Pretty cool how things just apear out of nowhere. Now the trick it would seem is to keep them around for a while . Well the good things anyway. The bad things can go and stay gone !!!!. Not to many of those so far in this tank. Its very healthy looking. Now my 44 gallon is another story. Not looking well at all. Bad algea problem but Im sure its a lighting issue. need to get a better bulb.
