Post How many fish Can I put in a 125 gallon tank

I know this sounds dumb ? I have had up to 12 different fish in the tank. I have a modified seaclone 150, DSB 4", 225 lbs of fiji rock, 20 gallon refuge with macro algae, second reuge 15 gallons with 20 red mangroves. I have 6 mushrooms, 2 small zoos, and one medium red carpet anemone.

But maintaining bi monthly water changes. And keeping nitrates below 5ppm How many fish can I add?

there is a formula.. but i dont know it.. but really it is all dependant on your tank and filtration.
12 is alot.. but that also depends on the size of the fish...
if they are all large... then i say you are done.. if they are all small lil fish i dont think a few more would hurt...
But you are the one that will have to watch the water quality.

Personally I wouldn't add anymore then 10. Depending on size of course. I have 8 in my 135, and I have a 6" Naso and a 4.5" Yellow tang, anymore fish and I think those 2 would get at me!

I also think that you are pretty much done with the fish.

I have 4 in my 110g tank but they are all large fish and I can't even think of addin another.
It would help a lot if you tell us what type of fish you have right now. Your filtration sounds good to me with exeption of the skimmer perhaps. Seaclones are not the best choice for this size aquarium but you can upgrade as your tank matures and if you see a need.

2 hours later... ALL Fish are dead? What happened in those 2 hours and why were you thinking of adding more fish if your existing fish were displaying erratic behavior?

depends on the fish...I'd shoot for no more then 1" per 5 gals of tank size (I do more like 1/2 to 3/4" per 5 gals) You have to go by the adult size of the fish, not how big they are when you buy em....

They died a week ago

I am going through a mini cycle since I changed 70% of the water after their deaths.
I am asking because in a month I am going to start my system over?

I have a good book which states:

"Maximum fish-stocking levels:

Reef Aquarium
4in (10cm) of total fish length per 22 gallons (100 litres) of aquarium water.

Marine Aquarium (with selected invertebrates)
6in (15cm) of total fish length per 22 gallons (100 litres) of aquarium water.

Mariine aquarium (fish only)
8in (20cm) of total fish length per 22 gallons (100 litres of aquarium water.
"
Taken fromVincent B. Hargreaves "The Complete Book of the Marine Aquairum"
