What water tests are perfect?

And what are "comflo"?

To answer the species question it looks like a "toadstool" leather to me. Sometimes my leather corals would close up for a few days and then open back up. I think it has to do with food more then anything. Try and put some Cyclop-eeze or phyto in there shortly after lights out and see if it blooms then.

It appears to from the family of Sarcophyton. It is an easy to care for soft coral. You don't say what wattage your bulbs are or how far away the coral is from them. These are the critical factors needed to tell if the coral is receiving enough light. That being said Sarcophyton corals will generally do quite well under lower lighting conditions. Yours looks quite healthy. They will often close up and shed a waxy skin. This is perfectly normal behavior.

Regards,
Kevin

You have plenty of light for this coral You could even keep it 12 " or so below the lights without any trouble. Your nitrates are a bit high though. Nothing to panic about but something to keep an eye on.

Kevin

I agree with kevin. I have noticed that with mine too. Every so often they close up and shed some and then a few days later they open back up and look better than they did before the shedding.

Thumbs down Watch the mushrooms

When my mushrooms look the largest and healthiest is when my nitrates are high.
