    fish for nano

i finaly have about 11lbs of LR in my 5 gallon nano. i was at the LFS the other day and i first saw a citron clown goby, that is my first pick for my nano, and in the same tank i saw a few really cool red scooter blennys. would i be able to keep these 2 very small fish in my 5 gal? or would i be better off with just one?

The tank is looking good, the only thhing that I think could be a problem (but I might be wrong) is that the rocks don't have many gaps between them (from what I can see)

I think you would be better off with just one of those fish (I would go for the scooter blenny's they are cool!). Then you could go for another small fish, I hear that purple dottybacks are nice and do good in a reef aqarium (also they are only small)

citron clown gobies are pretty tiny also ,

im definetly going to get the scooter blenny though, they are awsome!. and about the rock, someone else commented that the rock seems like there are no gaps or caves, so im gunna try and fix that asap, or before i get my fish . ive seen the dottybacks, and they look pretty cool, so my second fish is either gunna be the dottyback or the yellow clown goby.

A 5-gal tank is much too small for whatever it is that they are selling as a "red scooter blenny" and it is much too small for any of the dottybacks.

P.S. -- There are approximately 10 different species of fish that are sold as "scooter blennies." Most of them are not even blennies. And that's just an example of what they can do with a single common name that they apply to several different species of fish. You should see what they can do with a single species when it comes to common names. They confuse gobies with blennies all the time and they insist on referring to dragonets as either gobies or blennies. For example, they often sell dragonets and call them "scooter blennies" and they often sell the Mandarin Dragonet as a "Mandarin Goby." Virtually any fish that scoots along the sand bed is likely to be called either a scooter-something or a skipper.

    fish in nano

I have had a ten gallon before and it's hard to keep even a couple of fish in something that size that isn't a stinkin damsel. Look into some neat looking inverts to liven the tank up a bit.

I would have to agree with ninong on the dottyback thing. Even if you got one to stay alive in there good luck keeping anything else with it. Those guys can be mean!

    so ninong,

would the Starry Dragonet be a bad choice for a fish to put in?

i think im just gunna get a very small citron clown goby and thats it.

i do a 1 gallon water change on a 5 gallon tank every weekend, so i think my parameters will be fine for the guy, hopefully.

i really liked that cool looking dragonet, i wish i could keep one of those, they are so cool.

I really don't know what fish would be suitable for a 5-gal tank with 11 pounds of live rock but perhaps one of the smallest gobies (e.g., neon goby) might survive. I don't think I'm a good one to ask about fish in 5-gal tanks. ;)

Hmmm, the same fish was sold to me as a scooter blenny in the uk...
Suppose you should never trust a fish shop!

5 gals is a small, obivously even smaller in the US (uk gals are lager than us ones)... (sorry about the advice )

    Cool

Please please do not put the scooter{actually a dragonet} in a 5 gal tank!!They need a large tank with alot of LR and do best with an established refugium..the tank also has to be mature.{over 10 months}The reason is their diet, like the green or spotted mandarin{also dragonets} they need live copepods on which to feed. Some will pick at frozen mysis, but it is NOT their preference, and they will soon starve.
Look into a green banded goby,an excellent choice for a nano,as they stay small. The citron goby would also be fine.Make sure he is eating at the store...some are hard to get to eat.Good luck!

alright cool thanks for the advice, i wont be getting the scooter blenny. im just gunna get one small citron clown goby.

but...i am having a custom 5gallon with a built in overflow built for me, so i will be having a sump, and it will most likely be a 10 gallon sump. would this make any difference? i wouldnt buy the scooter right away i would wait until the tank is way more established and then maybe, what do you think?

    NO!

I think you're either not reading what has already been posted in this thread or you are intent on doing whatever you please anyway. No one says you have to agree with the advice given or even take it, but please stop asking the same questions over and over again in every thread just because you don't like the advice people are offering. If you don't like their advice, then drop it.

Did you actually bother to read what waterfaller1 just posted for you? Do you think he doesn't know what he's talking about? I hate to get into detailed answers to your questions because you always come back with the same question reworded. And then you go off and stick a yellow tang in your 30-gal tank and wonder why you have ich all over the place.

NO, you should not stick a Starry Dragonet in a 5-gal aquarium with or without a 10-gal sump!!!

Reefer769, why have a sump that is larger than your tank!? I'm confused lol

    Ninong,
something tells me your getting a little tired of repeating the same thing over and over again I don't think you will need to repeat your self again, a bet even the fish in the tank could read that "NO"
