My first post, and thanks to all for contributing to the forum. I've learned 90% of what I know from this forum.
My wife and I decided to go with our first shrimp, a jumbo cleaner shrimp. Having only recently read about this concept of "cleaner shrimp" we were eager to test them. Within miniutes of adding him to the tank, our damsel was backing himself into the shrimp's antennae, and the shrimp started grooming him. WOW! Of course this probably won't surprise most of you, but for you newbies like me... do the homework and then try this out! My wife and I can't stop watching this marvelous interaction. The tang is also getting in on the action. Often we see two fish trying to get attention from the shrimp at the same time. It's like the fish are addicted to this shrimp! They get all fluttery and then zip away, swimming back and forth like giddy schoolgirls after each "session".
Secondly, today we noticed some white spots on the glass of the tank. Wondering what they were, I took a close look. Each spot looks like a fried egg (sunny side up) about 1 mm in diameter. They are flat and there's a faded yellow core to each dot. Is this some kind of snail egg maybe? The snails have been making little cacoons that sit at the water's edge, but these are completely different. Any guesses anyone? Thanks for the help. I'd clean them off, but I'm interested to see if anything comes of them. If this is something that is a known entity with a bad reputation, I'll get rid of them early.
Thanks for your help, and love your cleaner shrimp.
