Angry D*** Hermits and Sps frags

Really burns me up sometime between 1 am and 6pm when I got home from work one of my larger hermits must have bulldozed off one of my best looking frags( a tricolor with purple tips). I bought some bulk blue legs and obviously some are not as in the last year or so there are a few who are big enough to live in a turbo snail shell. Looks like I am going to pull all I see from now on. Sorry to vent but I hate to lose critters or corals I take it personally.

Petpoor, i know how you feel. The same thing has happened to me many times. I've lost 2 frags of Montipora Capricornis' from bulldozing. Either my turbos or hermits did it. I have banished the bigger ones to the sump and replaced them with some very small ones. One way to prevent this from happening is to just get some Aquamend epoxy from HD for a couple bucks and fasten those frags down. Haven't lost a frag since i did that. From now on, no more turbos and only small hermits, if any.

Hi All,

I have come to the opinion over the years that the only hermits that don’t seem to eventually cause one problem or another are the micro-hermits.

All the others seem too eventually become snail killers or bulldozers.

Regards,

Scott

I've come to the conclusion that when I do start my reef tank, no hermits of any kind are welcome. I put red-reef hermits my FOWLR a year ago. Now nearly every time I see a snail, it has a hermit inside. Even the tiny nassarius snails aften have a crab in it. And it's not like there's not plenty of empty shells for that purpose! I'm convinced the crabs eat the snails, not out of neccesity, but because they have a taste for escargot.

This one was super glued down like all my others, have looked every where but no sign of my frag. From now on all hermits wandering out from the rock will be banished to the LFS if they are wearing a shell larger than the small cones. Already had to banish my Bubble eating Mithrax(NOT) never touched my bubble algae. I kept getting little nips out of my frags, blamed one of my tangs till I caught one of the larger emeralds munching down. Oh well luckily I have some smaller frags I made off of the large one that are doing well.
