Question What is Growing on Live Rock?

Can anyone identify what is growing off my live rock (see photo)? It is sprouting on a couple other pieces of LR. Tank completed cycling 4 months ago.
Thanks.

Your photo shows several things growing on your live rock. I'll pick the one I want to identify.

That little green tubular thingy with the whitish lower part is a calcareous alga in the genus Neomeris. I had some in my tank until I added a Foxface Rabbitfish: http://www.reefland.com/ninong/Neom%...e%209-5-03.JPG

I realize it is not the greatest photo. I'm trying to find out what the white/tan peddle looking thing is in middle of photo.

I have calcareous alga growing in several places. Is this good or bad?

That is exactly what I was refering to when I said that I see algae called Padina sp.
Check out this picture to compare to what you might have.

And here's a link to the algae page where you can read a bit more about algae and most of all, you have lots of pictures there to help you identify some of the algaes.

It is neither. It just is. It poses no problems that I am aware of.
