Bleaching and Regrowth observation
Quite interesting. I've got a small head of Acropora that has been doing well for sometime in our 72g. It's about 3" under the surface and has good exposure to a 6500K MH(250watt). Anyway, growth had been good until several weeks ago. You see, 2 of the tips completely bleached down to the base. What was left was exposed skeleton. I took a risk and left it alone.
Well, the bleaching stopped about 3 weeks ago. Over the past week I've been observing tissue growing back over the skeleton! And today I've even noticed corallites(polyps) on the new tissue! Just thought I'd share this since I thought it was interesting. Could post a pic if anyone's interested.

OK. I'll post it tomorrow. Lights are out right now on the tank and I don't wanna disturb the critters.

OK,
Here's a pic. I too am not a photographer and it's a bit blurry. However, you can definitely see the white tips of the part that died. Notice the tissue growing back up toward the tip and if you look closely, you'll see tiny corallites beginning to "bud" on the new tissue growth. Very cool stuff. I'll try for a better pic later.

I have frequently had small areas of bleaching recover. Try to find out what the problem was (ie. stung by another coral, sand irritation, poor water flow) and correct the problem. If there is not enough water flow through the coral and it is bleaching, then I usually frag the coral. I had this problem with a pocolopora that was just too compact in nature to allow waterflow to the inner branches,
