You can frag it if it's large enough but if you want to leave it alone you can. It'll do its thing all by itself.
I have a silver tipped pulsating xania which appears to be starting to split. Should I help it split and if so how? Or is it better just to let it split on it's on time and terms?

When xenia stocks hit a certain size, they will start to split like that and eventually become 2 (I've seen pom-pom xenia spilt in 4's also) stocks. The easiest thing to do is just let it split naturally. If you want to propagate it without much of a hassle onto other pieces of rock, just put another small rock next to and touching one of the new stocks. Within a few days, the xenia will start to attach itself to the new rock. At that point you can either wait for it to eventually separate from the original rock totally or you can cut the base of the stock below the new attachment point (assuming it has firmly attached). The cutting will further anchor itself onto the new rock and the nub will start to grow back into a new stock in no time. Once the xenia starts going look out, the stuff is a weed.
Exactly correct! Xenia can literally take over LARGE sections of your tank! I have exactly 1 stalk left, at one point I had OVER 50!
