My tank has been up for two months now It has cycled. All my reading are great the only problem I am having is brown algae on the glass and my rocks and sand. what I hear is this normal for a new tank. I have been removing the algae from the front and side glass and just letting it grow on the back. I was wondering how much longer this is to be expected. I have bought live rock with a little bit of color on them but the brown is about to cover it up is this normal. What can I do to get a lot of color on my rock. Is this just a waiting game or can I buy something to kick start the color. I keep my light on about 12 hrs. a day I have a 50/50 96 watt compact on a 30 gal Tank. Thanks Big worm

A diatom bloom is just a normal part of the new tank cycle. It should go away within about 10 days or so.
Coralline algae will begin to show up within two to four months after you started up your tank. It's just a waiting game. ![]()
