About LinkBacksI have a buddy who is getting ready to restart his reef aqaurium. Who would you guys recomend to get your live rock from and what type. (i.e. Fiji, Vanisi, Tonga, etc...) I have experience with Tampa Bay Saltwater but I am leary to recomend them after all the problems I had with mantis shrimp. Anyway please post your opinion...

Fiji, IMO because in a reef tank it will soon be covered with coral.Paul C

I would definately stay away from Gulf rock (for the most part anyway) the density of MOST gulf rock does not provide for a good porous (filtering) effect IMORocky

I agree with scubadude. I ordered all my LR from them and not only did I get 4 mantis shrimp but it also took my tank damn near 2 months to cycle. It is just not porish enough. I have even broke one of the rocks in half(to get a mantis) and it was solid white! If I had to do it all over again I would have got all fiji,marshall islands, and tonga.

I'm going with the advice up above.
I will side with ffexpress.com on this one. I've gotten a total of 110lbs of Fiji Premium from them and they are WONDERFUL!!! full of coralline pinks, purples, greens, and orange.
My recent order of 90lbs of about a month ago is popping up with life. I've seen button polyps already!!
They have a sale right now, two TYPES of rock - Walt Smith Fiji and the NaMoli. I've never tried the NaMoli, but what the heck, i fyou're getting 90lbs, i'd get 45 lbs of each kind.
Just my experience and opinion.

Jeff's got Marshall Island on sell for 2.99lb to fish club members. This stuff is the best rock I have seen. I wish I could trade my Vanisi in for it....Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm;)
