My buddy who is new to the hobby also had the cloudy problem a few weeks ago. I went over there and cleaned his glass with a magnet and BAM wasn't cloudy anymore. Not saying this is your problem but he didn't notice it. I hope it's just the glass.
I am having trouble with cloudy water. My tank is about two months old. I have already went thought my cycle two weeks ago. I was getting a lot brown algae I am noting getting this any more at least not as much. When I come home of the morning and turn my lights on it looks a little better but when I get up 8 hrs. later its very cloudy. I have changed my filters both are carbon. I have did a 10% water change. The water change did help for a little bit. What should I do my tank Checks good ammonia 0ppm nitrite 0ppm and nitrate 0ppm Ph 8.2 and the sanlity is good. The only thing I have did diffrent was I did add 5 pounds of sand last week but it cleared up right away. sould I do a 25% water change or wait it out. or do something esle. I am open to ideas. Thanks for any help Bigworm

I have a magnet I use it every other day or so but ill try it again. Thanks for the help WORM
I did a 25% water change last night and bought a diffrent filter. I bought a whisper 30-60 300 gallons per hr. a little bigger then the one I was using. It has cleared a little but not a lot. I'll Keep runnning carbon for a while to see if the stops. if any other ideas are out there send them my way. Thanks WORM

I was reading on here about phospahates in the water can cause the water to be cloudy. So I went to Petmart last night to find something to test my phosphate level I did not find anything but i did find Phos-X remover I put this tiny filter in with my whisper today when I got up my water is clear again. What causes all these phosphates to get into the water. Do I need to invest in a better skimmer. I only have a 30 gal. tank what skimmer would do me a good job for the money. I dont want to pay high dollar for over kill. Thanks WORM
I've had my tank set up now going on 5 months without a skimmer and am beginning to see a very thin brown film develop on top. Up to this point its been pretty much clear but I suspect its protiens or what not? I'm getting a protien skimmer real soon (was planning to 6 months after establishing tank anyway) and I'm sure that's gonna make a huge difference. Maybe that's what you need too. Sorry can't help you with brands I'm just beginning to research options. Good luck.
