Yes, it is almost certainly Halimeda. Of the 30 different species, my guess is Halimeda opuntia.

Send a message via AIM to icemark
Halymenia sp.

Cool stuff, generally easy to keep, one of the better macros IMO. Likes to grow in sand, but will attach to almost anything.

BTW my LFS buys the stuff from me for $7.00 store credit a bunch and sells it for $20.00

Icemark do you have a tang? Does it eat it? I'm looking for a micro alge that I can keep in my tank, for more than one week(my tang finishes it off that fast)

Could I buy some?

p.s. also what do you mean watch your calcium levels? Does it leak calcium or use it?

Your tang should leave this alone completely.

What he means is that it uses a lot of calcium. It has a calcareous skeleton. In fact, it is the major component of the white sand beaches of Hawaii.

Hi All,

My guess would also be Halimeda opuntia

I have quite a bit of this growing on the back side of my live rock, where you can't see it.

It is a neat addition to a reef tank, no Tribble at all.

Regards,

Scott

Yeah, but they closed "Halimeda" several years back.
