Cleaning outside of glass

Is it safe to clean the outside of the aquarium with regular glass cleaner or is there a possibility of the mist going into the main tank? If it is not safe what would be a safe alternative?

I clean ours with Windex, but I always make sure to spray some at the bottom of the tank or just some directly on the paper towel and then clean it, be very careful as to not get any in the tank.

yup, i spray the windex on the paper towel a few feet
away from the tank, then give it a wipe down. for a polished
look, i grab a used dryer sheet to buff it up afterwards.

Windex will work just fine, like the others say spray it on the paper towel, or spray it close up and towards the bottom of the glass... vinager will also work and is safer if you are worried.

just be careful if you spray it on the glass. if you have a
sump/fuge/skimmer, the mist could get sucked into it by
the vacuum created by the skimmer.

I use a product called "Coralife Glass Cleaner/Polisher." It's an 8 oz. spray bottle and it lasts forever. I don't spray it directly on the glass, I spray it on an old T-shirt and then I use a different old T-shirt to polish it off. It works great and it's safe.

Be very careful if you're using Windex because of the ammonia in it. Also, you CANNOT use Windex on an acrylic tank!!! It will destroy the surface of acrylic, making it dull and causing fine spider web markings. I don't have an acrylic tank. I just know some people who have learned the hard way that you can't use Windex on acrylic.

Bingo! That is what I use, I just add a bit of vinegar to it and voila! I than use paper towels to wipe it all clean, whenever I get to it, of course.
