Is that 29" high? What kind of stuff ya gonna put in it coralwise. If it is 29" high, you may want to think about goin with 250w halides, you'll get better penetration with them. If it's only 24" high, forget I said a word.

How long do you think it'll be before you start putting SPS in this dream tank?

Charlie, the plan is since we have them, may as well use them. I figure it's better penetration than VHO's or PC's so that's good. And seeing softies and LPS aren't as light hungry as SPS and clams, may be no need to go with 250's, but time will tell. Can always upgrade later on.

Reefland, I'm sure it won't be too long before we put some lower light SPS in there higher up. We've got plenty we can pull from the 110 to go in there when the time comes.

The floor supports are in. I put 2-2x8x8's nailed together run purpendicular to the exsisting floor joist under the front of the tank. 3 adjustable floor supports are holding that up, one on each end and one in the center. 2-2x2's are nailed to the exsisting joists on both sides of the new joist to keep it from sliding out.

Going to get the tank in the a.m. and the drilling of the closed loop will be done on Wednesday. Stay tuned for pics of the drilling process.

I'd say that'll do it!

Any concerns about the tank being drilled? Were you able to get the work gauranteed?

There is always that concern of breaking the tank while drilling. That is why someone who has done hundreds of tanks is doing it and not me. It's not guaranteed, but I don't think you'll find a place out there that will guarantee it. I'm very confident that it will go off without a hitch.

I am too but I have always been interested when people are getting a tank drilled if they were able to get the work gauranteed.

This is a great project you've got going here.

The tank(s) are here!!! I say tanks because we also picked up a cute little 24x24x12 cube which will be our new growout tank in the basement.

Drilling some holes in the floor tonight for the drains and the returns. Not much else happening until the tank is drilled and the plumbing of the closed loop begins.

This tank is going to be an experiment in keeping mulitple dwarf angels as well as our one large angel. So we will be keeping whatever they do not eat. Hopefully they will not bother with our frogspawn and anchor coral. We have discovered the big angel likes open brains and candy cane corals. Luckily we have other tanks to transfer the corals into if the angels decide to make them lunch.

What are you gonna use for lighting over the cube? And if you don't mind me asking, what did you have to give for the cube? That would be a dynamite growout tank, are you gonna drill it also, and what kind of flow is gonna go thru it? Sorry for the questions, but I'm looking into the same type of deal.

That cube is going to have a 175w MH over it. That cube was right around $50. It will just have a HOB overflow because the tank is all tempered, so it can't be drilled. I'm going to split off the return pump line to feed the cube, which will overflow into a 30 gal. refugium and that will gravity drain into the sump.
