Smile 210 Upgrade in Progress

We are upgrading our 120 gal. tank to a 210 gal. AGA with Megaflows. Our 45 gal. clam tank that is currently plumbed into the 120 gal. will be moved to sit next to the 210 on the same stand. The 120 will become the sump for the new tank. I'll be updating as we progress. Stay tuned.

Here are some pics of the stand from start to finish. The stand is 96x24x30.

Stand looks excellent! Do you already have the tank? What kind of timeline do you have?

The 210 will be plumbed down to the basement (fishroom ). The current 120 will then become the sump to support the 210 and 45 gal.

We don't have the tank yet, should be getting it in the coming weeks. Once we get the tank we are having it drilled for a closed loop. Once I get the plumbing all connected on the back of the tank, it will be put on the stand. But before that, I have some supporting of the floor to do in the basement.

Very nice stand. Could I ask a question, I am in process of building a stand for a 90 gallon tank out of red oak for the face and doors and red oak plywood for the side. How did you go about fastening the face of the sand to the sides, and how did you attach the individual strips of wood on the face together?

The front was all screwed and glued. The first pic shows how the screwing was done, sorry, don't know the terms they use for it. The front was glued and nailed to the sides. The second pic is the front top corner. HTH Let me know if you need any more detailed pics.

For the front, the picture on the left, did you use some type of jig and a drill to set those screws? For the right picture, did you just nail at spots that would be covered by the molding?

Yes, it was some type of air powered tool that clamps the wood to a jig and then it allows to drill at an angle and only so deep.

The front was nailed (air nailer) to the top rail, sides and bottom decking. Then just filled in with putty.

So, did you do this, or did you have someone do it for you?

I hear ya there!

They aren't really that hard to build though. A tablesaw, router and sander is really all that's needed. Make sure everything is square and use plenty of wood glue.

We will be picking up the tank Saturday morning. Once the tank is here i'll be setting up a time with the guy who will be drilling it for a closed loop to come up and drill it.

We are going to have (2) 1.5" bulkheads as intakes and (4) 1" bulkheads as outputs. We will be running a Sequence Dart on the closed loop. Should be ordering that pump soon as well as the return pump which will be a Sequence 4300SEQ20.

I'm planning on getting the floor supported tomorrow and i'll post pics of that little project probably tomorrow evening.

What are you going to do for lighting? Is there going to be a canopy over the 2 tanks "joining" them? I think it's going to look very cool having the clam tank sitting side by side with this monster.

We will be putting our exsisting lighting of 3x175w MH's over the 210. There will also be 2x65w PC actinics as well, which will be replaced by 2-6' VHO actinics down the road. Seeing as it is going to be softies and LPS, it should be plenty of light for them. The clam tank will still have the 250w MH pendant over it.

We will be getting a canopy, but this is aways off. We can use our exsisting canopy over the 210 until funds are available to have the new canopy system built.

The clam tank is going to look like a little 2.5 gal. nano next to the big tank, but should be pretty sweet.

Yeah I think it's going to look great sitting next to this tank.

Next question, what kind of skimmer are you planning to use on this?

Thumbs up

What are the dimensions of the tank itself? Is it acrylic or glass? Looks like you've got your ducks in a row tho. I'll be lookin forward to keeping an eye on this. Bet you can't wait til Saturday.

Right now, we have an MR-2 but will be adding a riser tube and second injector down the road.

The 210 is 72x24x29 and the 45 is 24x24x18.
