How long does it take?

Hello,

About a week ago I got a montapora digitata and a acropora frag. How long does it take for the polups to come out. I can tell that they started to open but they don't seem to be extending out. I don't see any color that they are to be (green digitata & purple acropora!)

Thanks,

Martin

Hey Martin

Have you done any test like PH, Alk, and Calcium yet?

Rocky how are you?

Ca = 415
Alk = 10.5
Ph = 8.0 - 8.1 I have had a hard time mantaining it at 8.3

Cal' reactor is on order.

Martin

Im good bro Thanx for askin

You say you have had a hard time maintaining @ 8.3? more importantly what is your swing from low point to high point? If your swing is 8.0-8.1 I really wouldnt see that being the main culprit

Are the corals looking better or worse than when you bought them? Also check them @ nite after lights go out and you should see better polyp extension

Your numbers look good to me as long as your other numbers like ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, phosphates etc etc are undetectable

Hi Martin,

Kind of hard to tell what kind of polyps are extending from your pictures. In most cases for me, polyps extend on newly introduced frags pretty quickly, within hours if not immediately. Keep in mind though that SPS corals do not have very large polyps.

One thing to consider if the conditions the corals came from and what they are going into. All of the key things, temp, lighting, salinity, etc. should be considered and acclimation performed accordingly. Did these corals come from very different conditions then what they are in now?

Hi scott,

They came from a tank with close to the same perameters.

Sorry about the pics but my camera is limited to a 2.5 zoom with no macro.

they polyps seem to be coming out but they are not the color that they should be. Did I get somthing different.

Thanks,

Martin

Coloration is going to appear different, and turn differenly in every tank. I wouldn't concern myself with the color unless if goes brown or worse, white. On the polyps, just keep your eye on the frags and make sure you do not observe and receeding tissue. I think they'll be ok though as far as the polyp extension, don't overly worry about that.

IME the majority of color that the Montiporas have is from the polyps. From your pics it's hard to tell but they should almost look like velvet. The polyps on them don't extend very far and I can't tell if they extend any further even at night compared to the acros. I have quite a few. I believe your red one is the same as mine and it's beautiful under actinics. So far I have the red with red polyps, white with green polyps, 2 German blue polyps, Green with bright green polyps, purple with brown polyps and I believe that's it. I love the digis though.

Good luck

Ok heres a thought....the two pics that show the least coloration are close to LPS are they possibly sending out sweepers? at nite maybe when you dont see them and causing territory warfare?
