healthy mushrooms
What do you look for when buying shrooms? And how do you know if the ones in your tank is healthy. The one i have seems to be doing very well, it spreads out really big during the day.

Look out for signs of bleaching. Mushrooms will lose their color and appear "white" instead of their natural colors. You will know this if only one or two of the mushrooms are "white" while the rest are okay.
Otherwise, mushrooms are very hardy. When you do get them, make sure you acclimate it. If the LFS has it under NO or even VHO lighting and you bring it home to MH.....problems can happen. In fact, I have a mushroom leaf that is bleaching totally right now.....and i'm even acclimating my corals slowly with MH in my new tank. Make sure that it doesn't shrivel up all day when the lights are on. They should expand. Light flow and overhanging places are good for them. Regards, Ilham ![]() |

IME unhealthy shrooms tend to be very shriveled up and lack of normal color.
