    worse than hair algae HELP

Hello everyone maybe you can help. I have 125 gal fish only tank. i have 5 chromis,1 dog faced puffer,1 unicorn tang, and 2 tomatoe clownfish.

My problem algae is a phytoplankton bloom. It really sucks because you cant see nothing the water is completly green. A dark green. Im not sure what to do about this problem. I was thinking about adding some sort of predator of phytoplankton. I know that bivavels eat this stuff in large quantities(thinking of getting a flame scallop).I also know that zooplankton eat it too and i have no live rock or sand just some basic rocks+argonite.

I have tried to use a 5 micron sediment filter on the end of my gen x which worked very little and slowed the crap out of my pump. I threw that idea out the window.I dont want to use chemicals(algacide) because it will just kill it and cause nitrates and stuff to rise.

I have a 6 foot tall diy protien skimmer and even this cant keep up with the growth. I talked to my local fish store and the owner told me to add some rotifers. so i bought 2 bottles and nothing. he said it would be clear in 2 days. im really frustrated!!!!!i want to see my fish again.

I dont know whats everyones input on this. thanxs.

    WOW!

Okay I am refering to a book written by Julian Sprung entitled Algae a problem solvers guide.... Anyway, it says a UV sterilizer should rapidly eliminate the bloom. Also set your skimmer to pull wet. Phosphate removing media should also help...... If you are not using RO/DI water for water changes and top off you should swap over. Good Luck!
