Question Anemone

I a looking to purchase an anemone for my two clownfish to host. I was wondering if a bubble anemone was a good one. If not, please suggest others. I am looking for one that is low maintenance and doesn't require a lot of light or current. I have only standard flourescent bulbs that came with the full hood when I purchased the tank. what do they "eat"?

I have a 55g FOWLR tank and the inhabitants are as follows:

-clown tang
-flame angel
-bicolor angel
-(2) clownfish
-mandarin fish
-neon velvet damselfish
-cleaner shrimp
-long spine sea urchin
-feather duster
-flame scallop (I know its not technically a scallop)

Hi sweetrav18,

If I may make a suggestion, please rethink buying anemone untill you upgrade your lighting to something better than standard fluorescent bulbs. Even VHO bulbs could sustain some species but regular fluorescent bulbs is just simply not enough to keep anemone healthy and thriving long term.

Secondly, to suggest any of the host anemone for a particular clownfish we need to know what species of clownfish you curently have.
To learn more about which clownfish associated with what species host anemones, read through this link
http://biodiversity.uno.edu/ebooks/intro.html

FWIW, I realize that observing interaction between anemone and a clownfish is quite fascinating but I think it would be an ethical thing to do to make sure that you can provide for anemone prior purchasing one.

Anemones all are high maintenance! They are very nice to look at. I wish I would listened to some of the people on this forum before getting mine! I would get rid of mine but, it would break my 2 maroons hearts!

Cool Which Anemone?

I was wanting to know which of the anemones would be the lowest maintence...surely some require less light and current than others? By the way what is the real name of what most LFS are calling "common" anemones? Thanks

That's hard to say; could be just about anything. I saw an LFS offering "anemone rock" for sale once. The scientific name of the "common" anemones in that instance was Aiptasia pallida.
