Its not a great pic the best i can do right now
Notice the mushroom in the bottom right corner between the two rocks. Is it normal for them to look like this? Is it trying to get closer to the light? Thanks, Andy (if pic dosnt work here is a link: http://www.geocities.com/subterfugal...bird/tank1.jpg

It appears that you have a crushed coral substrate. I'd replace it with aragonite sand before you go any further, make it 3-4" deep. I resisted doing so, but once it was done, I wished I would have made the change sooner.
The mushroom looks okay to me from this distance. |

your mushroom would love some more light, i would purchase some little PC to supplement.
change that substrate to be worry free several months down the road. |

I'd say go with the sand. THe shroom looks pretty good, they tend to look like lily's when they don't have enough light.

What you cant tell from the pic of my tank is that my tank is only 8.5 inches tall, which means a DSB would take up half of the available water space in my tank. I do have a ton of filtration on my tank, 35gph pump, filterfloss and carbon and a biowheel. I have been looking for a CF fixture to put on my tank but all the ones i have found are too wide to fit on my tank with out removing my filtration system (which i do not want to do). ANyone know of a place that sells a fixture that is less than 11 by 4 inches? I have been thinking about the AH supply conversion but it is a risk because it might melt my hood and they havnt been able to give me any advice because they are liable if anything were to go wrong. I think i can get glass custom cut to fit the top of my tank that is not covered by the filter so i all need is to find a small fixture. Any ideas?
Andy Oh and the sand i use is live sand.

Andy,
Even bare bottom would be better than crushed coral, I would replace the 1-2" of crushed coral you have with 1-2" of sand and then seed it with a hand full of live sand....... |
