    algae problem

    Ive got a real dark algae going on liverock and on the sand Ijust did a water change tried to clean the sand and algae was hard like all it did was break up but still very visible Algae ? or something else.Sure is taking my tank alot time to cycle been about 3 1/2 months water still at 100+ nitrates every thing else is perfect. any suggestions, comments,anything PLEASE

    research cyanobacteria and see if this is what you have. It's present everywhere but you can get it under control once your system is mature and provided you have enough flow to keep it from hanging on.

    Ive found it! pics too! bad thing I don"t think that is it "wife says its more of a maroon/dark purple color ?


    anybody got any ideas

    It sounds like cyanobacteria to me. The color can range from blue-green to dark maroon/purple. With nitrates at 100, I would definitely say that's what it is. Tell us more about your tank including filtration and current livestock.

    Unhappy

    I have 180 gal ,200 lbs of rock/250 lbs of new live sand,50 gal sump with an old berlin "just went to LFS to get new euro skimmer" dont think that the berlin was doing its job,part of the problem!!Ihave 3 damsels ,1 clown, 1 cleaner shimp 1 sand sifting goby.
    HAD a anemone that would not foot at all(took it back to LFS got star poylp that is slowly declining dont want to get any live stock till I kow that every thing is OK
