setting up 135gal reef ??? about caulerpa and mud

i am getting ready to set up a 135 gal reef tank. i plan on useing a 40 gal long tank as my sump. i am doing basicaly the same set up as the ecosystm. you can view their system at www.ecosystemaquarium.com goto marine products i plan to use their mud (mericle mud) with caulerpa. i will be putting the dividers in myself. my question is how big should i make the area holding the mud and caulerpa. i know the area can be to small but can it be to big of an area. and what should my flow rate be. i have a 1200 gph pump but think i might need more?
