Not that I know of. Manual removal is the best. Emarald crabs(some) will help. Better removal of organics via water changes and filtration should help keep the algae at bay after you manually remove it. It is a battle, good luck and happy reefing.....

Hi hymie069, Welcome to Reefland!
How new is this tank? Could you describe the algae the best you can for us? Typically bubble algae (Valonia) doesn't show up in "new" tanks which is why I ask. |

manually remove it. it is a pain but every little speck you can remove the better. Try running carbon (ESV is a good brand) and some sort of phosphate remover(i like Rowaphos) good luck...

I would agree that it would be best to remove it. Don't fret here, a little bubble algae is not the end of the world; in fact it is no problem at all other than being a bit unsightly. You might try doing a search for Valonia to see what others experiences are.

personally I have had valonia grow from the bottom up on some stoney corals and cause dieng in the coral. Valonia for the most part is harmless but in the wrong location can cause problems.

Interesting, I have never heard of it growing over live tissue. I have a couple of them in our tank butit has never been a big problem so I let it be.
If I start seeing it grow up a coral I'll have to get the tweezers out. ![]() |

my best advice for removal is to try to basically pick it out with your fingers piece by little bitty piece(it sucks). After you have been at it awhile there will be little floaters about in your tank, i use a small net to catch these. Afterwords I relax and keep an eye out for pieces that I missed, it is a bit tedious but effective.

well, if you used the shop vac the algae will die because it needs water to live, Very effective method of control......ONLY A JOKE
