Miracle Mud
Hi Guys,
I think i spelt that right. Im hearing alot about the product but its darn expensive. In Montreal i pay $13 Can per lbs I have several tanks linked together so total volume is upto around 750 Gal when i finsh my new tank. So according to the manufacture i need approx. 10lbs per 50 gals this is gonna cost me a furtune. So i want/cant buy it all but any suggestions are welcome, is this stuff really worth it. I run the tanks O natural, at least as much as one can. So the idea of using one of my tanks for this stuff is not out of the question i am also trying mangroves to reduce the P's and the N's. Any thoughts are welcome. |

Robinhood:
I did alot of reading on this product and after about a 10 year break from the hobby decided to set a tank again using a Miracle Mudd refugium. I am also using an underpowered protein skimmer to help finish curing the live rock. So far my tank has been running for abot 3.5 months. Everything has gone very well as far as cycling, water clarity, coloration of the fish and overall health of the corals. Pretty much what the MFR claims. The tank is still new however so talk to me in a year and I'll let you know how things are going. The only problem I've experianced is very bad problem with green hair algae. I found out recently this may have been caused by old lights and has nothing to do with the Mudd. The fauna in the refugium and tank is massive. After 1 month I had pods everywhere. I'm using Cheatomorpha, Caulerpa and a small amount of live rock in the fuge. Make sure you have plenty of circulation down there. There is a good article in Koral magazine by Mike Paletta about this system and some usage tips from a few issues back (the nano reef issue). In general, with the exception of hair algae, my tank seems to be doing well. I've never kept SPS or any other coral for that matter, and mine is thriving and growing like mad. My only maintanance is cleaning the glass and weekly water changes due to the algae. The Mudd conains alot of minerals so may be a contributing factor but I doubt it. I would recommend you try it. I havn't lost a thing yet (Knock on wood). LMK how it goes. Cliff |
