Temp problem

I might have a big problem. the power went out on my house due to a storm we are having. It has been out since 7 am. its now 330pm. I have the tanks covered and now I am at work. I left the house at 2 and the tanks were 70 degrees. HOW COLD is TOO COLD. when will things start dying???

Well hopefully you don't let the inside of your house get to cold. The problem isn't only the temp. right now, The problem occures when your temp. drops more than 3 degrees in a short period of time. This sends your fish and corals into shock, and then there is a possibility of death.
What do you usually keep your tank temp. set to?

Remember: When you go to raise the temp. back up, do it slowly so as not to cause more shock to your livestock.

well I don't have a choice. The power is out and has been since 7 am. There is no heat inside my house. Yes I am very worried. It is 28 degrees outside. hopefully my friend gets there with his generator to plug in my tanks. but at what temp does everything die at?

Power is back on, Yeah what a relief, wife said the temps where at 72 degrees in the tanks and the house was at 55 degrees (inside). hopefully everything will be fine. Now I must invest in battery back up or generater. What a horrible feeling knowing I almost lost everything.

Sorry to hear about your loss. After the blizzard in 2003 here in Denver, I went out a nd got a generator. One big enough to handle to freezer and tank!

YIKES!

Sorry about your loss, sounds like the wife supports the idea of a generator, that makes it easier to spend the money!

Sorry to here about your loss Marxsman.

After reading this thread I just have to share this with you guys.

I had'nt had my tank up and cycling for three months with only lr and four damsels in it when the power went out due to a lightning strike in the neighborhood. My wife started to become overly worried after about an hour with no power to the tank and forced me to go out and by a generator. This all happend right after one of those 6 hurricanes that threatend the east coast last year, so finding a generator was not as easy as just going to the local hardware store and picking out the model that fits your needs. The local hardware stores had limited supplies of generators so bottom line is I was forced to purchase a 1650 watt monster on wheels because my wife told me to. Sometime the wife can be such a wonderful person. lol
