Well I came home to feed my two whole fish in my 180 gallon reef tank after going out to dinner with the fam'. I was feeding my tank and noticed that my Tomato clown was nowhere to be found ! I looked and looked but no fish. This is not a fish that miss a meal! I still have not found him. as you know that this is a large tank with 250+lbs of LR and as many of you know I am leaving to catch a plane to FL at 6am in the morn. I do not have time to start taking LR out to find him and discard him. My question is with a tank my size will it be ok not to break things down to find him. Well I guess I will hope for the best. I do have both skimmers running at full bore and I asked the wife to test the water in the morn' after she takes me to the airport. Thanks, Martn

Awesome man. Atleast now you don't have to worry while you're away. Even if death occured I think you would be ok in a tank that size and age.

Our Black Cap Basslett lived in the overflow for about 3 months and we thought he was dead. Just one day Michelle happened to see him back there.

Well, correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't you just be better off looking in the overflow if you are missing a fish. If it jumps and lands on the grate, wouldn't it die most likely? Maybe if you sloped it at a 45 degree angle so it slides back into the tank but I think it is just easier to glance into the overflow. Glad your fish is ok.

A smooth black acrylic covering for the overflow compartment might be a better option, especially if you have smaller fish that are jumpers. Both of my fairy wrasses are fairly large.
