Yes, he is the first of three angels I have in my tank. I've had him for seven or eight months now and have never had any problems with him.

I have mostly sps, a few lps, (frogspawn, bubble, and hammer) and the only soft corals I have are a fiji leather and some Xenia. Occasionally, he will nip at the Xenia and I wish he would do more so then occasionally. I also have two clams which he does not touch. His other tank mates are a Regal angel from Fiji, and a juvinel Emporer angel which is beginging to change. The Emporer will occasional nip at one of the clams but not often. All three will wipe out a colony of zoo's in seconds!

I have a total of 250 gallon system and do bi-weekly 10% water changes which I think is very important to their health. I also think that no angel should be placed in a tank that is less then a year old.

You take your chances with "any" angel. You would be taking a bigger chance placing one in a largely lps dominated tank then a largely sps dominated tank and you would still be taking a chance.

However, if your willling to risk losing something (I think you would with the brains) then the Majestic is a super "possible reef safe angel". Mine is the boss of the tank and his colors almost glow in the dark.

The corals that most P. navarchus will go after are Favia, Favites, and most meat and open brain corals. They are fairly safe with SPS and most soft corals. I have not heard of them eating clams but it says they may in most books. I would recommend getting a juvenile and getting it to eat prepared foods in a separate tank without corals first. It will be much less likely to get hungry and start sampling your corals that way. They are one of my favorite fish

Regards,
Kevin

now that is some real helpful info thanks.i thin k i will do just that buy it young let it grow then add corals. no need for seperate tank though i am just getting my fish list togather. since i am on the subject here is my fish list:

1 majestic angel maybe
1 naso streamer tang (naso lituratus)
1 blue tang (paracanthurus)
1 yellow tang (zebrasoma flauescens)
1 bicolor angel (centropyge bicolor)
1 flame angel ( centropyge loriculus)
1 coral beauty (centropyge bispinosus)might leave out one of the little angels
1 percula clown (amphiprion percual)
1 green chromis (chromis viridis)
2 helfichi firefish (nemateleotris helfinchi) (mated pair if not just 1)
2 redhead gobies (gobiosoma duncticulatus)
1 green clown goby (gobioudon atrangulatrus)
1 yellow clown goby (gobioudon okiwawee)
1 twin/2 spot gobie (signigobius biocellatus)
1 mandrine goby (synchiropus splendidus)
1 red scooter blenny (synchiropus stellatus)
1 cleaner wrasse (labroides dimidiatus)
1 lineatus fairy wrasse (cirrhilabrus lineatus)
1 scotts fairy wrasse (cirrhilabrus scottorum)
1 orchid dottyback (fridmani pseudochromis)

i plan to put them in the following groups and add the groups one every 3 months or so to the tank.in () are estimated max size length in inches. of course i will be buying them young and i dont think the really big guys will ever reach their full size.but here is the plan.

group 1 group 2
green clown goby(2") green chromis(3.5)
yellow clown goby(2) lineatus wrasse(4)
2 red head gobies(2) scotts wrasse(4)
red scooter blenny(3) percula clown(3)
1or pair helfinchi firefish(3) 2 spot goby(3)

group 3 group 4
flame angel(4) yellow tang(8)
coral beauty(4) blue tang(12)
bicolor angel(5) naso streamer tang(18)
mandrine goby(4) dottyback(3)
cleaner wrasse(4)

my tank is 72x18x20 so what do you think will everyone get along with this plan. i am useing a 40gal sump with miracle mud and caulerpa. lots of live rock 200lbs plus corals. i am still working on the coral list there will be lots. have a cleaner crew already it is a good group to much to list. o almost forgot i guess i will add the majestic angel after group 3 but before 4 all by him self
sorry to ask such a big question but you gave such a good response to the majestic angel question that i figure your the guy to ask

You are talking to the queen of over stocking a tank and I must say your list is not going to work in that size tank. I've had that tank size and the most you will be able to do is one tang if you want the large angel. The 3 dwarfs is going to be very difficult and even adding them at the same time may not work. Your wrasses, manderine and blenny will be competing for the same food and the manderine will probably lose. You have to remember with 200lbs of live rock you are taking up a lot of swimming room. Just my .02

My attempt lasted 4-5 days, one of my other tankmates kicked its butt! Unfortunately for me!

You will probably never see your firefish (and the helfriches are PRICEY b/c they come from such deep water...like $200 per if I am remembering correctly ) with all those tangs and angels. I have a pair of the "Elegant" (N. decora) in my 55. They are SHY, SHY, SHY... I keep mine w scissortail gobies and other very quiet, peaceful fish. They were in quarantine 4 weeks and HID for the first solid week -- came out only to eat. Once they went into the main system, it took them another week before they really would hang out in the open areas. They are BEAUTIFUL fish -- the reds and the purples are irridescent and almost glow. They are WORTH stocking around, IMO...

They will be really happy with the clown gobies you would like to keep and the scooter blenny/mandarin (and probably the wrasses), but even in a big system, they won't be able to "hang" with the tangs and angels.

thanks for info i have had this basic fish set up in this tank before the difference i had the 1 purple fire fish not the helfinchi. and the majestic would be new too but the tang and angels i had before well i just had 2 little angel not 3 but did have the tangs plus one more.the fairy wrasse's will be new too as well as the dottyback. before my fire fish were ok with the tangs and angel what i am worried about is the dottyback with the firefish. and the majestic the last time i did not have one but did have a blue dot stingray and a bat fish which will not be here this time.and yes the helfinchi fire fish are very pricey $200 plus i want a mated pair so they could go up to $300 ea. its cool though i have a whole sale lic dont have a store just the lic so i can buy these kind of fish. i can get the majestic mid size for about $40. not sure about the helfinchi there a little harder to get i have to speacial order them. but they will be much cheaper than the store price. was thinking about getting a mystery wrasse (psuedochellinus ocellatus) instead of the scotts wrasse they are very $$ as well like $250+ but there really cool just dont know if i can get one. humm i am pretty sure i will leave out the bicoloor angel i think its best to leave one. you guys are right too many angels. i wish i could see all of them in the tank then take them out and let the tank set up for them. man with the cleaning crew and the corals my refugium is going to be put to the test for sure. in my 20gal i have a purple firefish with a watchman goby a clown goby and a purcula clown. it took the fire fish like 3 months to curz around. have had him now for about 1 year and he just started last week to look around at other rocks in the past year he never went more the 3-4 inches for his home now just now he has started to swim across the tank. i feel like a kid when i see him do that. and act like one too.
