Feather Dusters
I made the mistake last night of asking my wife to pick up 3 snails and 2 feather dusters while she was in the area of our LFS. Well, she is a very helpful person - she bought quite an assortment of creatures which my tank is not yet ready to accomodate. My wife is a big proponent of the "more is better" theory.
One item was that the 2 feather dusters, became 5. I had planned to put two between rock crevices, to see how they faired. My question concerns placement of feather duster/tube worms - do they have to be "anchored" in the sand, or can they be inserted in a rock crevice high above the substrate? She also purchased three peppermint shrimp, I guess I'll find out fairly quickly whether or not I have a mantis shrimp. Thankfully the LFS talked her out of the anenome and ricordea rock that she intended to buy. Without the benefit of researching this hobby, it's an understandable temptation to buy all of the exotic items in the LFS at once. Chuck |

Wow, wish I had a wife that would do that for me
"proponent of the "more is better" theory"As far as your featherdusters go, I would tuck them in to rock crevices and they will eventually achor themselves. Spotfeed with zooplankton very two to three days. Pending on the size of your tank, caution - When it becomes mating season, 5 featherduster can sure make a mess of your tank and protien skimmer. I had 2 in my 50gal. One day while admiring my tank the female decided to release her eggs. (oh, wow look at that ). As soon as the male sensed that this had happened, he responded by do his part. Holy cow what a mess!!!, you couldn't see anything in the tank, my protien skimmer went crazy. Don't want to think of what would have happened if I had 5 in my tank.

James: Thank you, I think I'll keep her. She's the one that talked me into buying the tank in the first place (on our second wedding aniversary, last year, no less). I hadn't planned on having so many feather dusters, but they are interesting creatures. Thanks for the heads-up regarding the mating season. Chuck |
