Soaking Wet :(

If you don't like horror stories don't ready any further....

My tank has a phosphate problem, so i brought some phosphate remover. I try and put the phosphate remover in my fluval 404 and suddenly water is rushing everywhere and I'm like, what did I forget to do?
(now I know... )

I turned of the electrics to stop all my equipment burning out as the main extension lead was now covered in water. (Also I didn't really want to get an electric shock).

By this point my tank was emptying its self very quickly, so I did what any normal person would do and shout for help. What seemed like hours later my dad rushed in and said "Where's the crack?", great.

By that point I was prepared to do anything to stop the water, so after a lot of swearing and raised voices between me and my dad, I decided to just rip the ****ing fluval 404 intake out of the tank. At this point my corals decided to close up and my fish hide, I don't think they will forgive me.

This was on the 2nd story of the house, on a wooden floor and it happened around an hour ago. I have just turned the electrics back on and refilled the tank. (Luckily I had 50l of ro salt water already made ready for my new tank, which is now on hold until my Mum & Dad are speaking to me again.)

My laminate flooring is wrecked and breaking away as I type. The water seems to have mostly been mopped up, the room stinks of green algae and its a tip. All of the cloths on my floor are wrecked.

The only good thing is that the tank got a good water change and so far, no water is leaking through the roof, yet.

I will let you know when my mum and dad are speaking to me again.

I lost about 40l of water on the floor in the end, that is 4 buckets.

And no this isn't a joke.

Yikes!
If anything, don't feel so stupid becouse it happens to just about all of us at one time or another. I've had my share of water gushers over the years, ruined carpet in my office and little smell while it was drying... Luckily, both my tanks are on the first floor so the damage was minimal to the house.
You can always wash your clothes from salt water so no worries there, laminated floors are another story, of course.

Thanks for the words of encouragement

The clothes will be fine but the floor is had it, and I cant replace it because I have a tank sitting on top of it

The best I'm gonna be able to do is get a rug to cover cracking, I don't think it has made to much problems on the wooden floor below the laminate (floorboards), i think it just floated on the laminate instead of soaking through.

Sam,

You are not the only one to have done this. I remember once I was changing out my sump to put in a new. while I did remember to shut off all ball valves and unhook all plumbing and electrical. What I did was much more stupid! While I was syphoning out 45 (us gallons) in to a 5 gallon bucket my cell phone rings and stupid me takes the call and walks out side and forgets about the water going to a STUPID SMALL 5 GALLON BUCKET. So you get where I going with this! Fourty plus gallons of salt water all over BRAND NEW CARPET FLOORING! :slap: My wife was going to KILL ME !
So your not alone with this one. I bet we have all done something stupid and maybe more than once.

So cheer up mate,

Martin

Take heart, it happens to everybody. It may be the first time, but it won't be the last!! At least you are OK, no electric shocks!!!!
All my stuff is in the basement on concrete, but I have already screwed up an already fragile back falling down a few times. Water on concrete = slippery. Of course the Black Velvet had nothing to do with that.............. :slap: :slap:
Cheer up, they will start talking to you again, whether you like it or not.

LOL!

I have done several boneheaded things too! I had a rear channel speaker fall into the corner of my 55... THe speaker won, and water was SPRAYING out the crack... I was waiting for the whole SIDE panel to just disintegrate! Luckily it didn't!
