Opinions on Skimmer choice. The more the Better!

Ok! So here's my dilemma! I've chatted with several people about putting a skimmer if at all, and, if yes, what kind of skimmer to put with my 6 month old, 29 gal. reef tank with Ecosystem filtering. What my proplem is that the people I chat with are split almost exactly about this subject. I can't figure out who to beleive!?! Any thoughts you can give will help tremendously! Thanks!

I know ecosystem says, don't run a skimmer on there systems. I have done both, and I really think that as the system ages, you need a skimmer. Plus I agree with what Poseidon said, YUCK THAT STINKS!!!!

I would run a AquaC Remora skimmer on your tank.

Ditto. It's what I have on my 55 and it works great. Upgrade the pump though from the Rio that comes "standard" to the mag option. I got mine from Marine Depot. Don't bother with the skimmer "prefilter" box, I got one originally, then took it off and have found that the skimmer for me works better w/out. Poseidon and Charlie are right too, the stuff is YUKKY.

Aqua C Remora or a Prizm Pro. The prizm is being used on my 20 gallon and I'm plenty satisfied with it. It does skim a little wet but I like that and for the price I'd suggest going that route....if you want to shell out the cash for the Aqua C I'd go with that but if not the Prizm is fine.

Thanks!

Hey thanks!
I think I'll probably go for the Prizm mostly due to my money situation. When your 18 money runs scarce! But hey thanks!

Hey almost Diva,
I think I'll go with a Prizm due to my money situation. Will this do the job? Thanks

Since you say $ is a concern, here's some food for thought from one of the experts:

you could find a cheap HOB biowheel w/pump o-flow used on ebay and ditch the biowheel and put a piccollo skimmer in there they are like 10bux but you will have to buy an airstone, a tad of airline and a small airpump. You could probably do it for 20-25 bucks and if you had good husbandry skills on the skimmer then Im sure it would handle a pretty good load. I have used prisms and like them cuz I have had no problems with them others have....i think they require a tad bit more finesse in fine tuning them and arent so plug and play(havent tried the prism pro yet though), as say a remora but I do like what I have seen with the remora as well, havent bought one but would on say a 29g if I thought about doing alot of sps the remora would look a tad bit better, but if I did just softies and maybe a maybe a LPS or two i would try and get away with the picolo/HOB-filter.

Ben,

I've never used/run this skimmer, so I can't say... although I would say that most people who don't recommend the Remora recommend the Prizm...
