Detritus
I'd like to hear the different ways everyone deals with detritus in their system. I notice quite a bit of detritus builds up on the bottom of my sump in between water changes. I try to siphon out as much as possible. I'm open to other ideas/methods. How do you handle detritus?

Siphon, siphon and more siphon, obviously this is difficult to do from the sump. I have heard of people draining their sump (for each water change), siphoning what they could and using a towel to mop up the rest and then replenishing the sump with new saltwater.

I was originally doing it like that, draining the entire sump, removing it, and wiping it out, but it got to be to much work. Now I use a hand siphon (the kind with the squeeze bulb on top, like you use to pump kerosene). This allows me to get most of it out with less hassle.
I guess I will just keep doing what I'm doing. More detritus in the sump means less in the tank, so in the end I guess it's a good thing.

If you have baffles in your sump that seperate the sections (sump/fuge) you can always vacuum it out with a wet dry vac during your water changes.... As a matter of fact for my next water change I will do just that.
