Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Thanks Mike, to give you an idea, at 12:30 when I posted my question to you, I plugged the skimmer back in and in less than an hour the cup is over half full and it's just a light colored watery goo, nothing like it use to be. I check out your recommendation and go from there, it's just weird, it was fine for over a month than wham, go figure, its like that old saying "you get what ya pay for"

    Thanks Again

Damn, you have been a busy man!!!!!! I wish I could afford it right now, but since things in the household are on hold, so am I.

I like the color too, my living room is blue too.

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Ya, I have to pass the time somehow Charlie. I have filled out all the online apps I can, so I keep busy in the house. The living room took only a day, and cost about $100. It was worth it....

The other changes to the sump didn't cost much, less then $30.

I feel ya though, I would rather be in my shoes right now then yours I think... (Sorry)

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Well, major changes in the tank yesterday:

Sorry the WB is off a little on these, my tank is not quite this blue.

    Full tank shot (Of course)

    Left side

    Right Side

    Middle!

My corals are still really pissed at me, especially the Hawkins, and the Purple Monster, but I am sure they will recover very soon. (Fingers Crossed!)

Actually I didn't Charlie. I hacked a bunch of pieces off of the purple rim, but they were very pail due to the location of them. I did make huge frags of the Tyree flower pedal though, it wouldn't fit behind the Tort otherwise.

My friend Andy helped out a LOT, and we actually did a good job of not making to many accidental frags.

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Today was a good day for the Reef! After Andy and I redid the aquascape, I had a few frags. ;) I had 4 nice sized chunks of Tyree Flower Pedal Cap, a nice Idaho Grape, and a few choice ORA Acros. Having these nice pieces in my sump was UNACCEPTABLE, so I made a trip to a not so local (to me) fish store, Sea Shells! I contacted Michelle the owner last night, and asked if she was interested in the frags, she agreed and away I went this morning! Sea Shells is having a Fathers Day sale this weekend as well, so it was a GREAT time to go.

After packing up my frags and making the trip, I was very pleased with the amount of credit that I was given. I had planned on using the store credit towards a purchase of a Vortech MP40w, which they keep in stock. GIven that....

    Check this out:

Yup! One on each side!!! I had "good" flow before, with one at 100% in Reef Crest mode, now I have GREAT flow with 2 at 75%. I put them into Anti-Sync mode, if they both hit max at the same time my DSB was getting sent around the tank. I guess that is a good thing. ;)

While I was there, and since they were on "sale" I also picked up this:

A Battery back up! Something that would have been a nice touch is a second cord to connect the other pump. My backup came with one, but has outlets for 2.... Weird. No big deal, I am sure I can get one, or make one up.

Anyway, back to the tank, here are a couple more images from tonight:

Any ideas on this Acro? It is really that PURPLE from base to tip!

My new favorite, this is my son Logan peaking in from the other end!

I guess I have babbled on enough.... Please let me know what you think.

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

how do you decide placement, i'm going for sps and i'd like mine to look like that, but i've always tried to space frags out, should i just put them where ever and hope they work out?

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Hey Tim, I tried to leave 4-6" when I placed them, but it didn't always work out. At this point I am content to let the corals fight it out. ;)

That almost looks like a nana Mike, but it has none of the color that mine has, but it has the structure????
Tank looks really good Mike, and the Vortech is really going to provide you with dynamic flow!!!!

Thanks Charlie. It could be an A. Nana, I seem to remember getting that from someone a while back. ;)

If that is a Nana, the color difference between yours and mine is unreal!!!!! Mine is still tan body and purple tips.!!!!

Re: Documenting my 90 Gallon Tank!

Now that I think about it Charlie, I got that piece from a local reefer, named Ron. I think I do have the A. Nana from you still though.

I do have some bad news, my Hawkins Blue Echinata is NOT HAPPY at all. I moved it into higher light, and some more flow, and it is browning out pretty quick. So... I moved it back down some into some shade. My Purple Monster is also brown at the tips, but is recovering.

I have my lights at least 12" off the water too, compared to the normal 2", because the rescape has some corals that were low now high in the tank, everything else is doing fine.

I think things will be OK for you Mike, it may just take a while for things to adjust again, you know how that goes. Just let things mellow out for a couple of weeks.

Looks good Mike. The back up power looks pretty neat. I was thinking about getting one for my MP 20. No hurry, as its still in the box.

Exactly! Time is key to a reef for sure.

    Thanks Doug!

So far I really like the idea of having flow in the tank for a time automagically. It is one of those purchases that I have been putting off, but now that I have it, I am glad.

Now.... I have to go fill in a hole the Goby is making!
