The 1/4 hp chiller is all hooked up and running now! YAY! Today the temp stayed right where I want it, 78-79 degrees. This chiller also has a place to plug in a heater, so I really don't have to worry to much about my heater triggering my chiller to come on, and have them both running at the same time, a definate advantage.

I am hoping this doesn't cost to much on the power bill though!

I also gave "Joes Juice" a try. Darn aiptasia are sneaky little guys! After my CBB died they made a definate comeback, I am hesitant to try another one, simply cause I couldn't get him to eat anything after the aiptasia were gone. I can't try peppermint shrimp either, I'll bet my Niger would make quick work of them. So that leaves the "juice" so far so good... It seemed to be working pretty fast, I also tried it on some other mystery anemones that just popped out of the rock, and also on some yellow polyps, they were starting to crowd some sps, so we will see if this will knock them back a step or two...

Thanks again to Jeremy and Rob @ Premium Aquatics for letting me exchange the chiller. I never even mentioned I was a Mod here, so they just took care of their customer for the sake of taking care of me. VERY COOL!

I will post some more pix, when something changes!

Good to hear that you're gettin things ironed out man. Temp control can be a real turd this time of year.

Well the new chiller seems to be just what the Dr ordered. Temp is holding fast between 78-80, I can deal with that! That is with both bulbs on, the hood completely closed too! YAY no more propping open the top and filling my house with light from the halides... Man those things are BRIGHT!

All my corals are coming around too, I am getting better polyp extension from everything except the hydno. It may be my only casualty from the move and the temp spikes, hopefully I can find another one for the same price!

Joes Juice is a mixed bag for me, you have to hit the Aiptasia right in the mouth or it is no good, and those silly anemones will grow from every which way, even upside down... I am going slow with it, I don't want to introduce to much of this potion to the tank at once!

I am considering another CBB, seems Scott and Kevin have had some luck, maybe I just got a ornery one. Problem is I think I am maxed out on bio load, I already have:

Naso Tang 5-6"
Yellow Tang 4-5"
Odonus Niger 5"
Gramma Loreto 4" (No LIE IT IS HUGE)
Spotted Hawk 3"
2 Ocelaaris Clowns 2-3"

All this in a 90 with a 30 gallon sump. I guess my skimmer and flow rates are overkill for this size as they were all on my 135 but still... Opinions?

Mike,

Re: the Joe's Juice --

I gave it a try last week. Pretty cool stuff. Turn off all your pumps before using it. If you have big aiptaisia, only do 1 or 2 at a time (water parameters will scew otherwise). On my first attack, I went after one where the central disc was about the size of a silver dollar (a biggie..) and one smaller one next to it. If you are going after little guys, you can do a bunch at once. I left my pump off for about 20 minutes. It's pretty cool -- you squirt the stuff into the mouth with the supplied syringe, then (if it's big) squirt the tentacles. It melts while you watch. It WILL turn your live rock white in the spots where the aiptaisia was, but the rock will color up again. The big ones won't dissolve right away, they will wither, leaving a few very sad looking tentacles behind, and be totally gone by morning.

Good luck!

Rebecca

I still think a little kalk paste does a better job, but you do have to watch the ph a bit. Joe's juice only spread them around for me.

I tried the kalk paste, but it was a PITA injecting the anemones... I may have to go back to it though.

Boy I forgot all about this thread, it has been almost a YEAR since I updated this. There has been LOTS of changes, first of all the Aiptasia are GONE. They were eradicated by an Auriga butterfly, which I have since lost to unknown causes. I have upgraded skimmers, to a MRC MR-2 model. I have added a UV sterilizer, 57 W Aqua ultraviolet. AND last but not least, the sump. The sump is now in the basement, a 100 gallon rubbermaid tub. All my equipment is driven by an Iwaki 70RLT. WOW! I have more to update as well, but this is all I am going to type for now....

Here is a full tank shot taken a few minutes ago:

I will come back to this thread later to catch it all up...

Beautiful tank...

And I love that first pick with your baby girl in the tank. That's too cute!

Thanks Sara, I gave up on the "juice" too. This thread is pretty old actually, and I had forgotten all about it, .

Thanks Charlie, yes there is room for more frags, I am just worried about when they all grow out!

Captain Jim, thanks for the compliment. This tank has been through TWO moves in the last year, and it has came around very well.

Here is the NEW Sump:

It sure makes it nice to work on the tank now, all the testing and water changes can be done in the basement!

Time for another update! I was helping another reefer on a local board and he asked for pictures of a sump using a 100 gallon rubbermaid sump, so I took these....

I call this my bubble diffuser, it helps reduce the "burping, or belching" from the drain line.

That is an anti Siphon hole on my skimmer drain, that little hole is what stabilized the water level in my skimmer. Sometimes it is the LITTLEST things that make the biggest difference.

My chiller, and timers that I use for the Kalk Reactor. 1 Timer is for the stirring, the other controls a dosing pump to put RO water in. I have a custom ATO that was supposed to be already, but alas it is not...

This valve controls what goes to my chiller (left side) and the Skimmer (right side), what doesn't flow through here goes to the tank.

These are the big players on my system, a My Reef Creations MR-2, a GEO Kalk Reactor, and a 57W UV from AquaUltraviolet. All the water that comes out of the right side first passes through the UV before going to the skimmer. I think that the skimmer is helpful in removing whatever the UV kills.

Here is my Macro Basket, and super high tech 'fuge light. I use a standard compact flourescent bulb in there on a reverse lighting schedule from the main display.

And finally an updated picture from about where the first sump picture was taken. Charlie, as you can see I scraped all those letters off, I found them too distracting....

Once all the lights come on in the main display I will post an updated full tank shot too!

By the way- Happy New Year everyone!

Thanx for the update Mike, I am glad you took care the letter problem, I was wondering about them leaching something into the system anyways.
Looking forward to your full tank shot, haven't seen one in a while, plus it might be nice to see some old friends in there.
