Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
You'll want to fix it because 1) it's a great idea and design that you came up with and 2) you need it.
But I'd just shut it off for now and wait a day. I'm sure things will be okay to take a little while to get the frustration out (WITHOUT seeing how far it will go in the snow after you throw it!) and then take another look at it. I admit that I haven't "been there" yet to have to deal with something like this, but I've dealt with other issues, so I feel for ya. Like you said, maybe there was a build up of gas pressure in it that you weren't expecting. I'm surprised that a pump had enough pressure to do that on it's own, so it's possible it had help. Any way to build in a relief valve to help the situation for the future one?

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
Mike,
Sorry it failed like that. To be honest I didn;t expect to see it fail on the structural side of the reactor itself. Tubing maybe but not the blown side of the reactor. It;s weird. If anything, I have an extra Geo reactor sitting in my garage. If you want it just holler and I'll send it to you. It can get you by while you thinking about rebuild or garbage toss. It has Mag-2 pump for circulating but you can easily modify it with Eheim and be set. I think with your Ca hydroxide additions and this reactor you can keep up with the demand for a while.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it helps! Gene, that is very generous of you. I will survey the damage when I get home from work, and see how easy/hard of a fix this will be. If I decide to junk it, I'll certainly get in touch with you.
Thanks Again!!!! ![]() |

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
Well, I got all the media out of the reactor... It actually looks like a pretty easy fix. Some Weld On 3, some Weld On 16, and I think I will be back in business. I may put a layer of 1/16th or 1/8th Acrylic over that whole side, just to be sure.
That side is pretty well hidden by the PVC for the recirculation pump anyway, and if I do the glue right, most of the break will dissappear. |

Don't you know that all you EVER need is a hammer, screwdriver and duct tape to fix ANYTHING?! Seriously though, it's cool that you'll be able to do a fix on it. Totally awesome! ![]() )

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
Well..... I am MOVING AGAIN!!!!
Here we go again right? Well hopefully this time I won't have issues. We are thinking the week of Feb 4th for the move. This time I am going to buy an extra rubbermaid sump and set it up ahead of time, at the new place. I will fill it with a mix of my existing water and new water, then I will move the livestock from here to there, adding everything to the sump first. I will also get most of the plumbing done before I move the tank itself. Here is the really WEIRD part.... we are moving into the EXACT same townhouse/condo that we lived in when I joined Reefland back in 2001! So we are going full circle! Anyway, I will update the progress as I change the plans... (I know that is going to happen!) |

I sure hope you not running from the law, Mike... Seriously, though, good luck on the move and if you need anything just holler. ![]()

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
Ya, I can't seem to sit still for more then 2 years.... Not running from the law Gene, I am only moving 10 miles!
![]() How does this sound as a plan? 1)Set up 100 gallon sump at new location with RO water and add salt to 1.025 at 78-80 degrees prior to moving day. 2)Moving Day! I want to move all corals and livestock via buckets and trash cans to the new sump, acclimate the livestock to the sump. 3)Move tank and as much water as I can to the new location. 4)Set up tank to preserve the DSB. 5)Day after the move- Work on plumbing the old water that is in the tank to the new sump that is in the basement. Once this is complete, I will let it run overnight, or a couple of days, before I move the livestock back to the tank. While I have the tank down I may drill it for an overflow, which would add a couple days to the time of the corals living in the sump. |

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
I think it's a solid plan, Mike. I especially like the idea of drilling the tank, you know yourself how much it simplifies things with draining the tank.
I think couple of extra days in the sump won't be much of a problem for corals, providing that you set up lights and heater in that new sump. Heck, even couple of days with a shop light won;t do much trouble. Just like storm passing over and clouding up skies for couple of days. The weirdest part in all of this is that you are moving to the old townhouse that you once occupied...hmmm... Seriously, though, I think you desrve a medal if you keep setting up tanks after moving so many times. I probably wouldn't do it again if I had to move. ![]()

Re: Documenting my 90 GAllon Tank!
Thanks Gene. I have a friend that has already offered a 70 gallon tub for me to use free.... THat saves about $70 in moving costs, now I need to find a good deal on sand.
This sand has been in the tank 2 years now, and I am afraid disturbing it may be a bad idea. |

WHAT????????????????????????
Oh man, your tank is just beautiful now!!! Your plan seems solid, just keep an eyeball on things, and you'll be fine. Didn't Yogi Berra once say, this is like deja vu all over again? |

That sounds right Charlie. I am going to be much more prepared for it this time...
I have found LOTS and lots of local reefers willing to help, this move will be much better! |

Mike, let me tell you what, if your freinds are anything at all like the folks that came by my house last Saturday, you are in fat city!!!! You won't lose anything, and you will have one heck of a time doing it!!! Good luck.

Finally someone that moves as much as me! LOL!!!!
Good luck on everything and it sounds like you're good to go on what you want to do. I'm sure everything will turn out beautifully! If I was still livin' in MI, I'd be there for sure to help out!
