I agree with scubadude. It is a sarcophyton. Looks like the ones I have.

The unidentified looks like a gonipora - hard to tell from the pics. I guess one way to know for sure is if the base is hard or not. If the base is a hard skeleton, then obviously it's not a softie.

It is most definitely a sarcophyton. Look on my website, I have pics of mine. The polyps get almost 2 inches long and have the same tentacles to feed.

Enjoy your leather.

If the base is hard, it's not a leather. I've seen "baby" goniporas that look very similar to the pic. Goni's are a sand bed coral however and it'd be curious to see one as a "hitchiker" on live rock.

I've never seen a leather with feeding polyps that proportionately large. I'm not waying it's not a leather, I'm just saying that I've never seen one with feeding polyps that big compared to the diameter of the base.

It's a leather. My webserver is down right now, but type this into your browser:

http://www.ssaland.com/reefimages/mini-leather4.jpg

I'm trying to attach it but the link will show broken until the site comes back up I think.

This is a picture of my leather that bud a small child colony. Looks just like his hitchiker.

It is without a doubt, 100% a leather. No even close to Goniopora.

Light/Waterflow for that leather?

I have a leather very similar to all of your pics, unfortunately, I haven't seen the polyps extended more than 1/4 inch for a couple of weeks. All water params are good and everyone else is fully extended.

What light/water flow conditions do they like? I've tried moving him a couple of times with no luck...

Look for any sort of detritus build up on the crown. That will restrict how far it will extend its polyps I have one from brian at atlantis aquatics that extends it polyps anywhere from little nubs to 2 inches.

RobG - there are also different kinds of leathers, my lime green leather opens up to prolly about 1.5 inches, my gold crown leather opens about 1/4 inch or so. I have found that they like a gentle current (so their polyps aren't blowing all over) and low to medium light. Less current = More extension, however u don't want too little...HTH...

Hey DukeDog. is your leather really that pink or is it just the lighting? Most that I have seen are like a tan color.

srgtkoons,
Didn't see any detrius on the crown, but I blasted him briefly with a powerhead just to be sure...

MastaJ,
I've seen the polyps extended to at least an inch a while back, and the coral was sold to me as a lime green, so I know it can extend that long. It's pretty high in the tank right now, so I'll try moving him furthur from the light and powerheads tonight.

Thanks for the advice...

Afishybusiness,
It is pretty close to that color. I think the vhos make it look a little pinker when I take the pics.
